In the last couple of decades, the way we learn has changed significantly. Online learning methods have replaced traditional classes in a classroom. They combine the flexibility of prerecorded lessons with class sessions that are conducted using real-time software. However, these online options may not be enough for students who prefer a classroom that has real-time interaction.
Live online learning is a different strategy to other online education strategies. It permits students and instructors to interact in real time via videoconferencing applications like Zoom. Students are given the opportunity to ask questions, clarify confusion, and gain a more understanding of the content of the class.
Although live learning can have many advantages, some students might be unable to adjust to this kind of online learning. This study examines the students’ ability to learn online and identifies core factors that impact this. The results reveal that motivation for learning, self-directed ability and online communication are the most important influencing factors. Researchers also carried out a post-hoc assessment and multi-group analysis to compare gender differences between undergraduate, graduate, and sub-degree students. It was discovered that postgraduate students have higher ability to perform in all aspects of live learning compared to undergraduate and sub-degree students.
It is recommended that instructors establish clear expectations for what students need to do and know before, during, and after the Live Session. It is important to provide additional materials like summaries and gist quizzes. Also outline, concept maps and study guides can be helpful. Instructors should also develop activities that reinforce what students have learned, like reviewing, practicing, debating, and analyzing.
